Attempt to break into the office of Justicia para Nuestra Hijas in Chihuahua, hours after Norma Ledezma participated in the public meeting with President Calderon.

Second attack on the organization that investigates and makes complaints on the cases of the femicides and disappearances of young women in Juarez and Chihuahua.

Friday, June 24th at 4:30 am, the security alarm of the office of Justicia para Nuestras Hijas, was activated by movement in one area of the place. Upon going to see what was happening, the personnel noticed that there had been an attempt to force open one of the doors of the organization, which activated the alarm.

Hours later, at 8:30 am, the alarm again was activated, registering new movement in another part of the office. Unknown people returned intending to break into the office of the organization.

This happened one day after Norma Ledezma, General Coordinator of Justicia para Nuestras Hijas and mother of Paloma Angélica Escobar Ledezma participated in the dialogue for peace with families of victims and President Felipe Calderón Hinojosa, which was carried out in the Castillo de Chapultepec in Mexico City, Thursday, July 24th.

In her participation, Norma Ledezma publicly denounced the forced disappearances at the hands of the Mexican Army of Nitza Paola, Rocío y José Ángel Alvarado, indicating that on June 28th, there will be a hearing on the case in the Interamerican Court of Human Rights in Costa Rica; she demanded justice for the femicide of Marisela Escobedo and her daughter Rubi, citing the incompetence of the authorities en the case the the possible complicity of the federal police that protected the murdered of Rubi; she gave evidence of the cases of trafficking of women in Juarez and informed (Calderon) that the case of her daughter, Paloma Angélica Escobar, is being heard by the Interamerican commission of Human Rights and could be turned over to the Interamerican Court.

The attempted break in at the office of the organization is the second in a month. A few days ago, on June 20th at 4:00 am, the email of Justicia was hacked and whoever succeeded in entering the email account, also broke into the blog and erased the information regarding the statistics of femicides which is published monthly and demonstrated the evidence of the increase in murders of women in the state of Chihuahua.

These attacks developed in the context of high risk to the human rights defenders in the state of Chihuahua, who have been threatened and murdered in the last few months, as in the case of Marisela Escobedo.

The Center for Human Rights of Women and Justicia para Nuestras Hijas demand the that Mexican government urgently, impartially and exhaustively investigate the occurance and sanction those responsible and avoid

Both organizations reiterate the they will continue working with the mothers of the girls who have disappeared and with the cases of femicide in Juarez and Chihuahua, the number of which has risen considerably in the last 18 months according to offical statistics.

We reiterate what was stated by Norma Ledezma, founder and coordinator of Justicia Para Nuestras Hijas, in the public dialogue with the President of Mexico: “We will not stop the struggle for this cause, no matter how many battles we loose, and we are going to lose parts of the heart. It doesn’t matter that our feelings wither away. We will fight for this cause until the end in search of the truth and justice”.
